You can pay for medical bills through your own car insurance or the in some cases the at fault party’s auto insurance. The auto insurance company can pay via med pay or pip, and in some cases third party billing. This really depends on the state for which you live, how this would be done.
Third party billing
In some states, it’s not very hard for the doctor to bill the at-fault party’s insurance company. They can bill all of your treatment cost directly to the auto insurance company. However, this is not usually the way it is done.
Third party billing also means billing med pay or pip.
Med pay or medical payments
Med Pay is something you carry in your own insurance policy. The amount of the benefit is determined you, the consumer. Furthermore, you get to set the amount of the medical benefit. Its generally in increments of 1000.00 dollars and can range from 500-100,000 dollars per person.
The Med Pay benefit is per person, not per accident. For example, if you have 5,000 in med pay on your vehicle and have an auto accident. Let’s say you have 3 passengers in your car. If they are hurt, the medical benefit would be up to 5,000 per person. If could in fact payout 20,000 in medical benefits for the one accident.
Medical bills are submitted to the auto insurance company for the insurance company to pay. The payment will come in the form of a check either to the policy holder or the doctor.
