A Marietta High School student is the victim killed in a hit-and-run accident.
A 16-year-old from Marietta was killed in a hit-and-run on Saturday, according to Cobb County police.
Around 11 p.m., the teen was walking in the right lane at the intersection of Powder Springs Street (SR 360) and Cunningham Road when a red Hyundai Santa Fe hit him and drove away. The victim, identified by Marietta City Schools as Jaylen Fitzpatrick on Wednesday, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Grant Rivera, the school district’s superintendent, said Fitzpatrick was a rising junior at Marietta High School.
“School administration reached out to Jaylen’s mother and has offered to support the family,” he said. “We care deeply about Jaylen, we care deeply about his family, and we will make sure that we support both our students at Marietta High School, the staff, and his family in whatever way we can.”
Police ask anyone with information about the crash or red Hyundai Santa Fe to call investigators at 770-499-3987.
